II.                  Denver Digs Trees- Betsy

a.       Trees for people who need them

                                                               i.      treeship free tree fill out form that you are in need

b.       normal trees cost $20 contribution

c.        Apply for as many trees as you have space available

III.               Member Need them

V.                  Neighborhood involvement

a.       Hispanic population not involved

b.       Hold meetings every other month

c.        Start meeting earlier i.e. 6:00pm and have social coffee and cookies then have business portion begin at 6:30pm.

VI.                Fast Tracks coming down Downing and going north

a.       1.5 year for contribution prior to initiation of project

A. Neil Stone, exec. director, The Banyan Tree

The Banyan Tree is the new parent organization for the Whittier Drum

Project (WDP) and the Banyan Tree

Mural Project.

      The WDP has been offering hand-drumming classes to youth under 18 and

their families from Whittier and surrounding inner-city communities

since the spring of 2003.

      The Banyan Tree Mural Project  will be painted on three separate 6-ft.

x 4-ft. canvases and will be lent out to community organizations until

Banyan Tree has an enlarged home.

 

B. Fundraiser pasta dinner:

Thurs., Dec. 2, 6:00 p.m.Salvation Army Red Shield Center, 2915 High

St.

Two related projects he is  working on:

"Welcome to Whittier" signs--ready to go but is working on grant to pay

for them

Historical District designation--he is researching to find the

advantages/disadvantages; may be something to discuss in upcoming

meetings

Additional membership comments:

 

In the past, there was a competition amongst members to recruit new

members. The member who signed up the most won a $15 gift certificate

for a store.

 

Also, transportation may be a challenge for some of the older members.

Perhaps forming a carpool might be the solution.
