General Membership Meeting
January 17, 2007
MINUTES
1. Diane Barrett from the Mayor's office described Denver's Infrastructure Priorities Task Force. The Task Force has been looking at the capital improvement needs of the city. The second round of open houses will happen in late February or March. Then the Finance Committee will determine if there is a funding gap. If there is, it will go to election for an increase in tax rate. Diane can be reached at 720-865-8780 with any questions or comments.
2. Jim Considine is seeking volunteers for the Community Services & Health committee. He would like to help people in the neighborhood who need assistance with yard work or home maintenance. One person suggested creating a labor and/or tool pool for the neighborhood. Jim also feels that there has been an increase in graffiti in the neighborhood and would like to do something about it. Someone suggested having individuals adopt a street or even a street sign and keep it clear of graffiti. One problem is you must get the owner's permission to eliminate or cover graffiti. The City Council is looking into changing this requirement. Contact Jim at sherrienudge@yahoo.com if you are interested in helping with these projects.
3. Karen Morrissey, a candidate for the Denver Election Commission, spoke on the current ballot to create an elected clerk and recorder. She is against this idea and urges everyone to look into it. More information can be found at her website karenmorrissey.org.
4. Carla Beal announced that Darrell Watson is running for City Countil and his kickoff meeting will be held on Thursday, January 25th, at Kiva Restaurant, from 6PM-10PM.
5. Carla Madison, President of City Park West Neighborhood Association, introduced herself and talked about some of the issues that are important to her. She is running for City Council.
6. Justin Marks announced that the WNA is co-sponsoring a City Council Candidate Forum at the community center in April.
