My Experience with Sun Power
Sun Power did a weatherization program this last winter. I found out about it when I applied for LEAP. My excel bill was extremely high in 2008-2009 so I knew that I had to get some help. I am a renter in a full size home. Sun Power sent me paperwork, with a permission slip for my landlord, asking if it would be ok to weatherize the home. Only about a week later after turning in the paperwork, there was Sun Power in my home doing the following: (all for free!)
Installed the proper amount of insulation in my attic, as well as an addition to the house that never had insulation put in it; gave me a new rinse-able filter for the heater; installed weather stripping on the front door and back door, supplied me with thick plastic to place over my “drafty” windows, fixed a cold draft that was blowing on the heater in the basement (this was causing the heater to kick on all of the time); fixed my thermostat (it’s an old kind-manual), if the screws aren’t tight and it’s slightly crooked the mercury inside of it is not level and it tells the thermostat to constantly kick on all of the time; and they supplied me with paperwork on lead in old painted homes.
This was all very helpful to me because I am a single Mom, going to school full time, and I have the kind of landlord that can’t fix everything! Thank you to Sun Power and thank you to LEAP for helping with the energy bill.
